Decorative Concrete in Galveston

Island conditions — salt, wind and sun — are harder on concrete than anywhere inland.

Galveston is the most demanding environment we work in. Salt in the air, constant humidity, direct sun and wind-driven sand together attack an unprotected concrete surface far faster than conditions forty miles inland.

Salt is the main culprit. It works into the pores of bare concrete and contributes to spalling, where the surface flakes away in layers. Once that starts it accelerates, because each flake exposes fresh material.

Here a coating is genuinely protective rather than decorative. Sealing the surface puts a barrier between the slab and the conditions, which on the island is worth more than the appearance.

What we do in Galveston

Raised properties mean a lot of the concrete is ground-level parking and stair landings rather than a traditional patio. Those take the worst of the salt and are usually the priority.
