Pool Decks in the Memorial Villages

Hunters Creek, Piney Point, Bunker Hill, Hedwig and Spring Valley — wooded lots and large pools.

The five Memorial Villages sit together west of Houston along Memorial Drive, and for concrete work they behave as one area: the same deep tree cover, the same generous lots, and the same generation of pools.

Shade is the defining factor. The oaks and pines that give these streets their character also keep pool decks and terraces damp for a long time after rain. Overheating is rarely the complaint here; organic staining is. Leaf tannin leaves dark marks that sink into porous concrete and do not come out with cleaning, and shaded areas that stay wet grow slick well before anyone notices.

Lot sizes mean the installations are large. A pool surround here is often several times the size of an inner-Loop equivalent, frequently joined to a terrace, an outdoor kitchen and paths through planting — poured at different times as the grounds developed, and now weathering at different rates.

That makes consistency as much of the job as repair. The aim is getting the whole installation reading as one deliberate surface rather than a sequence of separate projects.

What we do in Memorial Villages

Mature root systems are the first thing to check on these properties. Where roots have lifted or cracked a section of slab, that has to be resolved before coating or the movement comes straight back through the new surface. We look for it before quoting, not after.
