Houston is hard on concrete in a way that surprises people who move here. It is not only the heat: it is heat plus humidity plus an afternoon sun that sits on an unshaded slab for hours. A patio finish that would last a decade in a drier climate goes chalky here in a few years.
The city is also not one housing stock but several. Inside the Loop we work on older slabs — patios poured decades ago, now stained and pitted, often around small pools squeezed into tight lots. Out in the newer subdivisions it is the opposite problem: large decks poured recently, structurally fine, but plain grey and brutally hot underfoot by two in the afternoon.
Both are resurfacing jobs rather than replacements. If the slab is sound, coating it costs a fraction of tearing it out, and takes days instead of weeks.
